Image-to-Video Guide: Bring Still Images to Life
Learn how to animate photos and illustrations with image-to-video in LongCat, and which images work best.
From Still to Moving
Image-to-video (I2V) takes a single image and animates it — adding motion to subjects, camera movement, and atmospheric shifts. It's one of the most practical AI tools for creators because a good still is often easier to control than a text description.
What Makes a Good Source Image
- High resolution — the model preserves detail from the input.
- Clear subject separation — a clean foreground vs. background helps the model move the right thing.
- Defined composition — a clear focal point gives the camera something to follow.
- Less is more — busy, cluttered frames tend to produce unstable motion.
How to Use It in LongCat
- Open the Studio and switch to Image to Video.
- Upload your image — it's stored privately for your session.
- Add a motion prompt (optional): e.g. "slow dolly-in, hair moving gently, dusk light".
- Choose duration and aspect ratio, then generate.
What Works Well
- Portraits: subtle head turns, blinking, drifting hair, breathing motion.
- Landscapes: clouds, water, light changes, parallax pan.
- Product shots: rotating or sliding camera, steam, dust motes.
- Art & illustrations: gentle animation adds life without losing the original style.
Common Pitfalls
- Over-motion: extreme prompts on a simple image can warp the subject.
- Low-res inputs: upscale first if your image is small.
- Complex scenes: split complex images into simpler ones before animating.
Start with a clean, well-lit image and a light motion prompt — the results will surprise you.
